HYMN: Eternal Father, Strong to Save
– Melita

1. Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave
Who bid'st the mighty ocean deep,
Its own appointed limits keep.
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

2. O Christ whose voice the waters heard,
and hushed their raging at Thy word,
who walkest on the foaming deep,
And calm amid the storm didst sleep.
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

3. O Holy Spirit who didst brood
Upon the waters dark and rude,
And bid their angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace.
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

4. O Lord entrust their soul's safe keep
As Lifeboats plough o'er oceans deep,
lend them your courage, strength and grace,
to those in peril, they must race,
oh hear us Lord, a sailors plea,
Guide all who save lives out at sea!

5. O Trinity of love and power,
Our brethren shield in danger's hour,
From rock and tempest, fire and foe.
Protect them whereso'er they go.
Thus, evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

HYMN: The Lord's My Shepherd
– Crimmond

1. The Lord's my shepherd, I'll not want.
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; he leadeth me
The quiet waters by.

2. My soul he doth restore again,
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness
E'en for His own name's sake.

3. Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale,
Yet will I fear no ill;
For Thou art with me,
and Thy rod and staff me comfort still.

4. My table Thou hast furnished
In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.

5. Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me,
And in God's house for evermore
My dwelling place shall be.

HYMN: Lead Us, Heavenly Father Lead Us

1. Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us,
O'er the World's tempestuous sea;
Guard us, guide us, keep us, feed us,
For we have no help but Thee.
Yet possessing every blessing,
If our God, our Father be.

2. Saviour, breathe forgiveness o'er us:
all our weakness Thou dost know;
Thou didst tread this earth before us,
Thou didst feel its keenest woe;
lone and dreary, faint and weary,
through the desert Thou didst go.

3. Spirit of our God descending,
Fill our hearts with heavenly joy,
Love with every passion blending,
Pleasure that can never cloy:
Thus provided, pardon'd, guided,
Nothing can our peace destroy.

HYMN: Will Your Anchor Hold

1. Will your anchor hold in the storms of life?
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

Chorus:
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the saviour's love.

2. Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear?
When the breakers roar and the reef is near?
While the surges rave and the wild winds blow,
Shall the angry waves then your bark o'erflow?

Chorus

3. Will your anchor hold in the floods of death,
When the waters cold chill your latest breath?
On the rising tide you can never fail,
While your anchor holds within the veil

Chorus

4. Will your eyes behold through the morning light,
The city of gold and the harbour bright?
Will you anchor safe by the heavenly shore
When life's storms are past for evermore?

Chorus

THE ADDRESS

HYMN: The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, is ended

1. The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended,
The darkness falls at thy behest.
To Thee our morning hymns ascended,
Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.

2. We thank Thee that thy Church unsleeping,
While earth rolls onward into light,
Through all the world her watch is keeping
And rests not now by day or night.

3. As o'er each continent and island,
The dawn leads on another day,
The voice of prayer is never silent,
Nor dies the strain of praise away.

4. The sun that bids us rest is waking
Our brethren 'neath the western sky,
And hour by hour fresh lips are making
Thy wondrous doings heard on high.

5. So be it, Lord; thy throne shall never,
Like earth's proud empires, pass away.
Thy kingdom stands and grows for ever,
Till all thy creatures own thy sway.

PRAYER AND BLESSING

During the singing of the final song, the Lifeboat will slowly return to the boathouse

SONG: Home from the Sea
– Phil Coulter

On a cold winter's night,
With a storm at its height
The lifeboat answered the call.
They pitched and they tossed
Till we thought they were lost
As we watched from the harbour wall.
Though the night was pitch black,
There was no turning back,
For someone was waiting out there,
But each volunteer
Had to live with their fear
As they joined in a silent prayer.

Carry us home, home from the sea
Angels of mercy, answer our plea
And carry us home, home from the sea.
Carry us safely home from the sea.

As they battled their way
Past the mouth of the bay,
It was blowing like never before.
As they gallantly fought,
Every one of them thought
Of loved ones back on the shore.
Then a flicker of light
And they knew they were right.
There she was on the crest of a wave.
She's an old fishing boat
And she's barely afloat.
Please God there are souls we can save.

And carry them home, home from the sea
Angels of mercy, answer our plea
And carry them home, home from the sea.
Carry them safely home from the sea.

And back in the town
In a street that runs down
To the sea and the harbour wall,
They had gathered in pairs
At the foot of the stairs
To wait for the radio call.
And just before dawn
When all hope was gone
Came a hush and a far away sound.
'was the Coxswain he roared
"All survivors on board
Thank God and we're homeward bound."

To carry us home, home from the sea
Angels of mercy, answer our plea
And carry us home, home from the sea.
Carry us safely home from the sea.
Home, home from the sea
Angels of mercy, answer our plea
And carry us home, home from the sea,
Carry us safely home from the sea.
