Volunteers from the lifeboat crew (of which there was no shortage) met up at the Real Ale Shop at Branthill Farm at the end of October for a beer tasting to choose a Shannon Ale. Organised by shop owner Teddy Maufe, the competition featured entries from Norfolk breweries including Elmtree Beers, Panther Brewery, Wagtail Brewery and the Why Not Brewery. All the beers were made from maris otter barley which is grown locally around Wells, malted at Crisp Matlings in Great Ryburgh.
A Wagtail beer was chosen the favourite and will be available as Shannon Ale from mid-November from the Real Ale shop. £1 for each b ottle sold will be donated towards the station's Shannon Lifeboat Appeal.
Our thanks to Teddy Maufe and the breweries for their support.
